The Heart of the Douro: Where Nature Sets the Pace.
Speaking of Quinta do Pessegueiro takes us to Ervedosa do Douro, in the prestigious Cima Corgo sub-region, the very heart of the Douro wine region. Imagine yourself travelling along a winding path, just two hours from Porto, where time seems to slow down. As you climb the hillside, the Douro reveals itself, flowing calmly between banks sculpted by infinite terraces of vines that stretch as far as the eye can see. Upon crossing the estate’s great gate, we are welcomed by a vibrant ecosystem of vineyards, olive trees, eucalyptus, and flowering laurels. This is a project that goes beyond winemaking, it is a property suspended in the landscape, inviting us on a sensory journey through the peaceful purity of the world’s oldest demarcated region. The birthplace of this Quinta do Pessegueiro Grande Reserva.

Respect for the Vineyard and the Uniqueness of Each Plot.
At Quinta do Pessegueiro, wine is born from a deep commitment to nature. Here, viticulture respects the natural balance, avoiding herbicides and moving steadily towards full organic certification across the entire estate. The secret lies in the individuality of each plot. Every vine is tended to according to its soil, slope, and sun exposure. Yet, the true treasure is the old vines (Vinhas Velhas), a historical heritage where grape varieties mingle freely (the famous Douro “field blend”). This mixture of ancient varieties is what gives rise to wines with a unique and unrepeatable identity, which we preserve with the responsibility of those guarding a legacy.

Quinta do Pessegueiro Grande Reserva Red: A “93-Point” Storyteller.
Our recommendation of the month could be none other than the flagship of this project: the Quinta do Pessegueiro Grande Reserva red. The pretext for this share (as if we needed one!) is its recent and brilliant distinction by the prestigious American magazine Wine Enthusiast, which awarded 93 points to the 2021 vintage, signed by the renowned critic Roger Voss.
The creation of this wine is, above all, an ode to precision. The grapes were harvested in 22kg crates and rested in a cold room before making their way, moved solely by the force of gravity, to the stone lagares. Following fermentation, the wine aged for 12 months in French and Austrian oak barrels and vats, before being bottled in May 2023.
The result? An extraordinary red that combines the structure and complexity of Old Vines (40%) with the vibrant elegance of Touriga Nacional (40%) and the freshness of Touriga Franca (20%). It is a reflection of a challenging viticultural year, hot and dry, which, despite the fluctuations, gifted us with admirable intensity and surprising freshness.
Upon tasting, we encounter impressive complexity. Notes of liquorice, spices, and ripe black fruits merge into a succulent texture, supported by rich and perfectly integrated tannins. It is a wine that can already be enjoyed with immense pleasure (though decanting is our strong recommendation!), but which promises to evolve magnificently in the bottle.
For us at Wines&Co, it is a privilege to have this label in our portfolio. It is a wine that personifies the indomable strength of the Douro’s southern slopes, the historical weight of the old vines, and the sophistication of world-class production.
